On Sunday 27 Sept, The Well hosted its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. It was a time of good fellowship, humour, and delicious calories with brethren and friends; some were first or second-time visitors.
Between 2018 and 2025, The Well amassed £1,741.04 for Macmillan Cancer Support and so far, this year’s event has collected £295.
We were blessed and absolutely delighted to have with us Dr Michael Dawes, Medical Registrar in Internal Medicine. He shared from his wealth of knowledge on the subject of Cancer, plus random medical topics thrown in by the audience (sorry Dr Mike – it’s not a regular occurrence having a Dr at The Well, and it takes so long to get an appointment to see a GP!) So yes, we added a few unexpected questions about frozen shoulder, fibroids, and more!
Dr Mike admonished us to know our body – know what is our normal. Anything outside of our normal should be urgently investigated by a doctor; sometimes we need more than olive oil and bay rum!
Early detection of cancer is vital albeit Dr Mike advised that not all cancers are symptomatic in the initial stages. We were encouraged to exercise, eat well (healthily), and reduce consumption of processed and red meat although someone happily chirped, “It’s not red after I cook it!” (LOL)
We were cautioned to keep every appointment made and return all requested samples to our GP/hospital without undue delay. Be politely firm and persistent with doctors if we feel that something is wrong and we’re not being heard. If necessary, seek a second opinion.
Pastor Dean reminded us that, just as with the healing of The Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11-19), Jesus heals today. Despite what medical science and doctors say about a cancer diagnosis and/or prognosis, Almighty God has the final word. We put our trust in Him.
A beautiful day. We left informed and equipped, and sufficiently provoked to be deliberately health-aware. An invitation to join us again for our weekly services was extended to those who need a Church Home.
Our Just Giving page is still open if you’d like to add a contribution of any amount to Macmillan Cancer Support. Please donate using the provided link: https://cm26.macmillan.org.uk/
