The New Birth

Born of the Water and the Holy Spirit.

What is the New Birth?

  • We believe that salvation is deliverance from the power of sin. The need for which goes back to the removal of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, as a result of their violation of God’s direct command (Genesis 3).
  • After the fall, the lives of humankind were marked by sin (Romans 5:12-21).
  • Salvation from this corrupted nature is the result of God’s grace and cannot be earned by our own merit. This grace is accessed through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • True, saving faith is more than belief alone, it leads to a life of loving obedience to God’s Word. In response to the gospel, God calls every believer to repent and to be born again of Water and of the Spirit, in accordance with the teachings of Scripture (John 3:5; Acts 4:12; James 2:26; Acts 2:37-39).
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
John 3:5

About Baptism

Water baptism is a scriptural ordinance that requires a believer to be fully immersed in water, signifying a death to sin and a new life in Jesus Christ. It is a sign or outward expression of the inner change that has already taken place in the believer’s life – a public identification of a person’s faith in Jesus Christ.

If you believe and are baptised, you shall be saved (Mark 16:16). Water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins is fundamental (John 3:5).

Baptism is an act of obedience and faith, symbolising your identification in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-4).

Baptism is a public declaration of a person’s repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

The candidate will be led to the water by the minister or baptiser and asked to confess their faith.

They will then be totally immersed in the water in the name of Jesus Christ, which is symbolic of rising from a past sinful life, to walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:1-4).

We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is received by faith.

The Holy Spirit baptises believers into the Body of Christ, adopting them as sons.

The initial sign accompanying this baptism of the Holy Spirit is unknown tongues.

The enduring evidence is a life that displays the fruit of God’s love (1 Corinthians 12:13; 2 Peter 1:4; Acts 2:4, 10:44; Galatians 5:22-23).

“ Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. ”
Acts 2:38
